This happened to me awhile back. An intermittantly faulty "hood open" sensor was the culprit. I pulled the switch out, jumped the leads within the connector, taped it up and that was that. Prior to, my machine would emit a faint "chirp" upon depressing the lock button on the fob, which meant that something was not closed (the hood). Fixed that.
Obviously, you may have a different issue, but mine was easy to track due to the "hood open" on the dash display. Hope you get to the bottom of it quickly.

Will it unlock the doors? Mine did that, and lubing the driver's door latch and operating the locks with the lever inside a few times fixed it.

I haven't tried anything besides replacing the battery....
It's been really cold here lately, and I don't have a warm place to work on the car.
I do "plug it in" so it starts nice in the mornings though.
I will probably wait until it either leaves me stranded calling for help, or it warms up enough to work on it comfortably outside.
Thanks f

I tried the reprogramming thing....didn't work.
I also have a check engine light on....related to the fob not communicating?
The car also stumbles if I don't let it warm up good.

I think Jag's don't like long exposure to cold, and I mean COLD weather. It warmed up to +15F today and the check engine light went off, and the program key thing worked, as it did not yesterday evening when I tried.
So......Thanks for the tips.

Have you checked the little flap that closes in the ignition when you remove the key?

Quite often these get gummed up and remain in the open position when the key comes out (you can tell if it's working normally as you'll hear and feel it 'click'). If it is open, the car still thinks the keys are in the ignition and won't allow you to use the fob to lock. A little light oil on a Q-tip worked onto the flap should free it up.

On my '02 model I have to lube it every three months or so.

Hope this helps,

Regards

Rob

Heh, I just had a similar problem with the little flap that closes over the
outside lock on the driver's door. Took it to the dealer and instead of spraying some cleaner/lubricant in they replaced the entire lock assembly. But to do that they had to special order a lock assembly from England that matched mine and was logged to my car, took 2 months to arrive. Seems that when a dealer confirms a problem they replace the component rather than attempting a fix. Probably means fewer cars come back for a re-fix. I'd think is was only for warranty repairs though.

Don't know the cost, don't care, have a Ford Extended warranty that covers EVERYTHING (was only able to purchase it because my car was still covered under its Jaguar Select coverage)... :-)

When you do the reprogramming thing, you have to push the lock/unlock buttons a bunch of times for it to get the signal. I just press the lock button like 30 times until they finally lock on mine.

Will it lock the dorrs when you manually lock it with the key in the door? Because my key fob wont unlock the doors so i opened it up and the tiny button was sticky so it wasnt moving when i pressed the button.
