Default Key Less Entry Programming

My Remote just went dead. Probably no longer programmed. Will I need it to turn on the car? I don't have the car near me now to check.

I uploaded HUNDREDS of TSBs to this site and these are among them.
Read through as many as you can and you will understand your car and it's faults.

I opened the remote transmitter and found that it was really dirty. I replaced the battery and while the transmitter worked the drivers side door would not open. All other doors opened fine. I used the key to open the drivers side door and it would not open. I turned the key back and forth several times and jimmied the door handle until it opened. I am afraid of breaking something. I have been opening the door through the passenger side. I'm thinking now that the door locking mechanism is not working properly.

First I would try a good spray lubricant into the locking mechanism. If that doesn't resolve the issue then try the link listed below.
As a last resort you made need a new locking mechanism if the solenoid is not working.

After much fiddling around I realized that if I turn the key to the left and leave it turned for a couple of seconds the door unlocks. I was trying to use it like a regular key. Im not sure if that is how the unlocking mechanism works or if it is just taking a little longer to engage. Either way I can get in through the drivers door. I just ordered a new remote transmitter and found a local locksmith to activate it and cut a new key. I checked with the dealer new key and transmiter $1000. Yikes
