Keyless Entry Woes
Everyone or Anyone with a X-type Jaguar. Please advise me. I have a 2001 X-type. I love it but it can be really frustrating at times. Especially with the keyless entry. I bought this vehicle used so the Fob did not work. I replaced the battery and reprogrammed like I read in forums. It worked it!! Yea! but after I drove the car and turned it off, It didn't work. Reprogrammed again andI'd had to be right next to the door for it to work. So I bought an another Fob from OriginalKeyless.com After a battery change in the new Fob and a reprogramme it too worked great until the vehicle was driven and re-started.
This has been the norm, and it sucks.
If anyone has any information on how to get the car and key Fob to stay in synch please enlighten me. There is NO Jaguar Dealer in Okinawa and I have no intentions of ferrying my car to Tokyo for service. I am very mechanically inclined, so-do-it-yourself work it no problem. Just need to be pointed in the right direction.
Thanx,
Geo

RE: Keyless Entry Woes
Hi,
This sounds like a problem common with UK models and is easily cured.
On the ignition switch, there is a little 'shutter' that slides over the keyhole when you take the key out. This shutter sometime sticks open. When this happens the car will not allow the key fob to work because it thinks that the keys are still in the ignition.
The simple fix is a spray of penetrating oil (WD40? or similar) in the ignition switch - just enough to free the 'shutter'.
Hope this helps

3-in-1 lube also works well. I had this same problem with my 2002 (US model)
It doesn't sound like that is the problem though, he stated that it would work but he had to be next to the door for it to work.
If you want to get it fixed try taking it to the dealer and have them reprogram the remotes to your car. I had a problem with mine and there was a tsb for it.

Much Thanx...but
The nearest jaguar Dealer is in Tokyo. I'm in Okinawa (that is a 6 day ferry ride) so no dealership trips.
I will try the wd40 oil first, if that doesn't work I will have to try something else. One thing that sucks is sometimes it will unluck but not Lock.
And if I do the reprogram thing it will work, but after I drive the car. Nope.
Really frustrating...especially when my hands are full and I cannot open the truck.
I know it sounds whining but it's a Jaguar dammit! It's supposed to be a quality car...not a Ford focus!
Grrrr!
