Default Leaking Fuel Pump Assy.

I just had my 2002 X serviced, and my Jag guy says I have a fuel leak. It's coming from the fuel pump assembly on the top of the fuel tank. And it's a pain in the ****, or $1000ish to fix. I guess the X Type doesn't come with one of those handy access panels under the rear seats to get to the top of the pump. He has to drop the whole rear of the car to get to it.

Anyone else had this problem? I know he's not ripping me off. I'm just having to find a spare 1k somewhere.

Sorry to hear bout your issue. I know the access to the fuel tank has been discussed on here before and I know that at least a couple people have cut a hole above it to access the pump just like you described. If you do a quick search I'm sure you can find the posts. Now, is that a good idea? Up to you. The pros and cons of that are debated in there as well.

Thanks... No I'm not going to start cutting access holes!
I talked again to my mechanic. He thinks it's probably the plastic around tne top of the pump cracking. If I'm really lucky it could be the seal. But he's seen three in the past 12 months, and they all were the pump assembly. I guess my credit card needs a little abuse!

Watch this space.....

well I have the plastic rings and seals.. Let me know. I also have a scrap car that I can measure for access holes.

Good Luck,
The Dr!

Ok... So, here's the scoop. I guess sometime in the past the fuel pump was messed with. Someone put the metal O-ring on crooked, and it messed up the plastic O-ring. So I dodged a big bill. Just had to replace the plastic O-ring and the tank pressurized with no leaks.

Next its a new AC compressor.

Nice! Always makes you feel good when something turns out less painful than originally envisioned....at least a little.
