Among the many things I'm doing to my car(new to me), is changing the tag, boot and interior lights to LED. Did the Boot & tag and was working on the front overhead console. Dropped it down easily to find the bulbs are in the most stupidly designed bulb holder![C2S002298] Started with the passenger reading light and BROKE IT! Little metal socket clamp broke off. Has anyone ever taken the lamp holder out? I tried a few times, but was afraid I might break it too. If I could get it out, I'm sure I could retrofit a new lamp socket. Sometimes I wonder what the engineers were thinking when designing this! The rest of the lamps look easy to do. Any help or ideas appreciated.
Are you adept with a soldering gun? Use stiff, insulated copper wire (think a tiny chunk if 12-gauge), solder to the broken tab, then solder the led to the wire. The likelihood that you will ever need to replace the LED is slim.
Attached is a sheet showing the pry points on the model thru 2004. I doubt it will be much different on yours. Once it opens up you can then unplug and unscrew it from the overhead.
That doesn't work for me. The console pulls down and the lamp holder is still attached to the roof. The lamp holder is the part that I need to remove. Part #2 is the part I need to remove.
