Default Lost key/ Ignition question

So when I bought my car it only came with one key, the one that flips open when you push a button. I managed to lose that key and I'm wondering what my options are? I'm hoping there's a cheaper way than everything I've read! Would I be able to remove an ignition from another car that has a key and switch parts or something? Thanks for reading this and I appreciate any advice.

Default Not sure how to edit original

I forgot to add that my car is a 2006 Jaguar X-Type. I'm not sure how to edit the original post. Thanks again!

The key and the ECU have to agree on the security code. The ECU also has to agree with the dash panel, I guess to prevent rolling back the odometer? If you can find one at a junkyard or try contacting Dr. Dome (he parts out these cars, search this forum and you will find him, ) you could replace the ECU, dash panel, and key as a set. Then you would have an issue with the key not fitting the door locks but you can lock and unlock them with the key FOB. Other options are Jag dealer, locksmith, or keep looking for that key.

There are two issues here.

First, the mechanical key, which works your locks.

Second, the transponder, which is polled by the immobilizer.

The mechanical key can be resolved in two parts -- determine the key code, then make a new key. If you get a Tibbe key decoder/pick (try ebay) or a locksmith who has one, this, and a little patience, will let to determine the code. There are several places to get a new key cut (I'm one of them) by the code.

The transponder problem is resolved by someone programming the computer to accept it.

Needless to say, this would have been much simpler BEFORE you lost the key, when the transponder could have been read and cloned.
