Default Lower Mesh grill

I have a 2003 X-Type. I replaced the top grill with a chrome mesh one. I just had the bottom grill done by someone and I noticed a small gap on the top of the lower grill. Has anyone had this problem?? or have any tips?? thanks

Put it on correctly. J/K
Is it factory lower or aftermarket? The only aftermarket grilles I would recommend would be from Arden. Fit like a glove everytime.

I've got the same issue, about a 1/8" gap on the top driver's side of the lower mesh grill. (It's factory and I put it in correctly.....)

It is factory.. It was installed the right way. I have that same gap on the top drivers side. Hey, RedJag is your clips on the top of the grill toward the center or toward the outside of the grill? I am starting to think maybe the grill is on upside down. Think that maybe it???

an 1/8 inch is pretty small. Maybe it is within factory tolerance?

1/8th of an inch I could deal with. mine has about a 1/2 inch gap! most people don't even notice it but I do.

Pulled mine off again today and put it back on per the instructions...I had done it right the first time, it only goes on one way. Now it has about a 1/4" gap all the way across the top....more uniform anyway...still looks good. Since I'm using the black one,I will likely slit some black tubingand run it across the top.

what i was wondering is this, there are two sets of clips. a set on top and a set on the bottom. one set is closer to the center of the car then the other set. are the more centered clips on you grill on the top, or the bottom?

I just purchased the lower mesh grille from JaguarXP and it looks like a pretty simple install. Are there any FAQ's on installing it? I have a 2002 X-Type and the only thing I'm concerned with is removing the diffuser. Do I need to drill or cut some pieces? Hopefully, its just the basic removing some screws.

Any advice?

not that i know of. the problem is the damn gap at the top. i see some people have glued theres on instead of using the clips, which I would not do. did it come with directions?

You have two options in regards to the lower grille assembly.

The first is to take off the front bumper cover and do it properly (I'm not sure if JaguarXP's install instructions detail this procedure).

Or the second option is to try and assemble with the bumper cover on and be disappointed with the results. If you ever see any pictures where someones lower grille looks totally jacked up or skewed out of proportion it's because they attempted the install without removing the bumper cover.

Thanks ArdenX. Now my next question, any tips on removing the front bumper? Or should I just bite the bullet and pay local body shop to install it for me?

if you pay the shop the will charge you for about2-3 hours of labor (jagtech will know the time for sure) if you don't mind paying then go for it. I did.

Jvegas.......If you're gonna do the mesh grille ( which loooks fantastic btw) do it properly and not half assed. You 'll only have to look at it and regret it every day thereafter[&:]

Here's mine. OEM lower grill (not from jag XP) unless I'm bending down looking at it you can't see the gap across the top. BTW the factory lower grill does not require removal of the bumper cover which is nice.

JV - don't knowI this helps you, but here's a photo of the one I have. The top has the three close clips, the bottom has the more spread out clips.
