Map Light Cover Removal
I could not find any detailed instructions for removing the front dome/map light cover. Everyone just said "Pry the cover from the roof" so I am offering this post as a "How To" for others who also like to see what they should be doing before starting.
There are four (4) retainer clips attached to the underside of the front removable cover that fit into four (4) slots in the roof housing. There are also two support tabs located on the rear underside of the removable cover that keep the cover tight against the roof (see photos below).
Using a thin, strong pry (I used a butter knife) start at one FRONT corner, closest to the windshield, of the cover and carefully pry the cover piece slightly from the roof housing. Once the cover begins to loosen, move to the other front corner and continue to carefully pry the cover slightly from the base.
Be mindful of the rear tabs when pulling down on the cover. The rear tabs are not real strong and can be broken off the cover underside if you are too rough (You probably understand how I figured this out).
Depending on how brave you are, you can either reach under the front cover edges with your fingers and pull down or continue to gently pry front/side/side until the cover comes lose from the roof housing.
Once you have freed the cover from the housing, move the cover a little forward to free the back support tabs (there are no retainers and the cover should pull forward easily.)
NOTE: Small fingers are useful if you are replacing the light bulbs.
To re-install the cover, simply reverse the process.
I hope others find this post useful.
