Default More headaches with my compressor swap

So I pulled my old compressor, installed the good one, pulled a vacuum, re-installed everything to get to the compressor and now the compressor clutch won't disengage. My thought is that the clutch that I installed was locked up from the start, but I'm just fishing for more ideas because I am so fed up with working on this problem. Everything that could have gone wrong has gone wrong and a simple 2 hours job has turned into a three day job and it's not even done. Anyways, here's my problem. My compressor clutch won't disengage. If I turn the a/c on or off it's still engaged. I thought it could be electrical so I pulled the compressor clutch fuse and the clutch still won't disengage. Do you have any good thoughts to get this clutch working other than just buying a whole new one?

Whack the clutch with a big rubber hammer while it's running, see if it disengages then.

(No - not kidding!)
