More problems!!
Right guys i need more help figuring what is up with my beloved CAT!!
went to have a look at another x type(not for me) but lets get to the point, after about 45-50 miles of driving on the m6(uk) going about 80ish I got the "limp mode" and only stayed in 3rd gear So we plugged in the scanner and error P1637 came up which is Can Link ECM/ABSCM Circuit / Network Malfunction, also gearbox fault message, and P1646 02 sensor, and the other abs errors which Im aware of, when driving in limp it was really thirsty, got to the place, had a look at the other x, my x was off for about 20 min, turned it back on and error was gone drove back home without a problem(apart from the abs issues) no error p1637 and no limp mode.
Any ideas guys?? could it be a general problem of the abs connection and it all being connected together???
Any ideas and thoughts???
Cant be the battery as its new and fully charged.
My X type is a 3.0 v6 from 2001 sport premium.

For one thing, it can be the battery, even if new. Just because it's new you can't automatically rule it out. In fact, if everything was fine until you installed the new battery, I'd suspect it. Have it load tested. That's the only way to eliminate it as a possible cause.
Other than that, I'm agreeing with Braceter. Start with the battery earth (battery cable to frame) under the battery box. Then check all you can find. Then check other electrical connections.

Nw1996, P1646 is Bank 1 O2 sensor failure (either shorted out heater or shorted out sensor). As for what side is bank 1, that would be the side between the engine and the firewall. The sensor plugs in right behind the throttle body on the firewall. But, odds are, you are going to need to remove the intake to give yourself room to go in over the top of the engine and go after the O2 sensor that way. Once you open up a hole, you will see the sensor right there on the exhaust manifold.

Thanks thermo for a more detailed procedure and yet again taking off the intake, ohh well if it helps then its a must.
Is it ok to drive with this sensor faulty??
As iv done a good 200 miles and nothing happens, cat is full of power(as always).
I will be towing a car this weekend(another x-cat for parts i would say or for sale or for mum) so should it be done before then??

NW1996, the trick is that you may be running the car rich and that can lead to an earlier death of the cat. Is it going to kill it if you drive for a month. Most likely not. But, if the CEL starts flashing at you, then you may want to pull over as now the downstream sensor is seeing issues and you are causing damage.

NW1996, you are after a Denso 234-9209 air-to-fuel sensor (aka, O2 sensor). I just bought 2 of them for $136 delivered to the door by going to: Denso 234 9029 Air Fuel Ratio Sensor OE Style | eBay. That was the cheapest I could find. Autozone and Advance have them for around $100 each.

NW1996, the "upstream" sensor is really mounted into the side of the cat. So, yes and no with it being "upstream". It is up stream of the other sensor if that helps. When you look down into the hole by the firewall, the upstream sensor will be very obvious.
As for towing an X-Type, you either have to get 4 wheels off of the ground, keep all 4 wheels on the ground and have the car in neutral (some say this is not a good idea as you are spinning the tranny and the pump is not moving fluid through it, so, the bearings may not be getting proper lubrication), or you have to put the front tires on a dolly and then remove the rear drive shaft. Your car. It is best to get all 4 wheels off of the ground.
