My car was hit while parked

Walked out this morning to find my front bumper and quarter panel hit, along with a note from a witness.

Pretty sure the insurance agency will total the car, but hoping for a repair. It's only got 60k miles, impeccable maintenance work, all records, suspension mods, the lot. Sucks.

I don't think the wheel was hit. What do you think? Totaled?

Doesn't look too bad to me although the photo is a bit dark.
Might need a new wing and a bit of chrome; can you get better photos?

Light hit, easy fix. If you can find the right color, a replacement outer fender is literally a 30-minute job.

Sorry it happened.

Rotten coward! Hit & run. Good size bang, but just one fender. I doubt it's a $3,500-$4,000 "totaling" cost.

Thanks to all for the feedback.

Insurance paid the repair shop $3k today to replace the front panel, bumper and headlight. I was just about to pay for the alignment, now that'll be covered as well.

All good

Nice. Glad that it sounds like it will all work out in the end.

If they paid $3K to get it fixed, did they say what they value the car at? I always thought the threshold to total it was like 40%-50% of the value. The $3K had to be pretty close.

You have a low mileage car. Don't look like the bumper and head light need to be replace, but the corner brackets and inerfender need to be straighten out, you can do it; just measure and compare to the other side, find an used fender on eBay @ $100 and repaint @ $5-600, every things will cost you @$1000 max.Keep it.

The value, I was told, is estimated to be "close to blue book." However, they know I had recently (within the last 18 months) upgraded the suspension (+$2.5k parts and install), stereo system ($1.5k), brand new tires - all of which they are also liable.

I haven't looked at blue book. But, although in B+ condition, I don't see the value (minus my upgrades) to be more than $4.5k, max - even with low 60k miles.

Agree/disagree?

Mine (at 70k miles) with a lot of extras is appraised at $8500...value depends a lot on what's been done and where exactly you are located. Sad to thibk that these cars can be had for under a thousand quid in the UK right now!

I have been buying them for less then 800. I have 6 right now. Most were people who could not afford to take to jaguar to repair them. So they sell them cheap. Just put a trans in one this weekend. I paid 400 for the car because of a bad trans. Bought another one with a blown motor but good trans and tcase for 300. Deals are out there if you want to put in the work.

questions?
Just ask The Dr.
