Default Need advice on 2002 clutch problem

About a year ago I had a clutch problem where the peddle fell and wouldn't stay up when I raised it. I took it to a Jaguar dealer in New York who said it was the clutch master cylinder, and replaced it for $300. It's shifted great since then until this week. It has suddenly had some hard shifts, trying to refuse to go into gear, then the clutch peddle fell to the floor, but when I pulled it up it stayed up and I was able to drive it home.

Now I have a dealer, in Exeter, saying it sounds like a bad clutch, that I probably need a $3000 clutch job. First, does this sound like a bad clutch requiring a full clutch replacement, or more like a bad master/slave, perhaps a leak in the line? Secondly, is $3000 reasonable for a clutch job?

Thanks for any info or insights.

Bill
