need help asap (solved)
Hello I have a jaguar X type 54 plate 2.0l V6 sport petrol the problem is the engine lights on and the car struggles to start ?? And some time when I drive the car it won't go over 3000 rpm? Need help want this car sorted! :,(
first off you'll need to get a scanner hooked in to read the codes, that will give you a starting point. Also does the message center display anything? Usually it will read what the fault is in generic terms, like DSC fault, or Cruise not available.
Next I'd check the engine compartment for a vacuum leak.

Raga, remove the cover from off of the engine and you will see a hose about the same diameter as your thumb. Is this hose in one piece and not leaking/have any holes in it. If this hose fails, it causes all sorts of problems like you are seeing. After that, if the hose is good, then getting the codes read at a local auto parts store would be the next step so we atleast have an idea of what the car is not liking. From there we can give you a lot more detailed information.
Well I plugged the obd comp in and all that comes up is P0174 bank 2 to lean? I know that's to check the spark plugs ? But I was thinking could it be because of the fuel? Should I start useing premium unleded ? What do you think guys? Any ideas what it could be?
Raga, trust me on this one, pull the cover off of the engine, find the large hose that runs from the PCV valve to the intake manifold. You are going to find a rip in that hose. Replace the hose with either some 1/2" vacuum line or a new hose through Jag (costs $15 USD). For the moment, you can use some electrical tape to wrap around the hose to "seal" it back up until you can get a new hose. I just had this same issue.
You have a vacuum leak. In addition to the hose previously mentioned check the small hose between the brake booster and manifold also the IMT valves in the manifold looking from the passenger side the 2 round black things. Their O ring seals are known to leak.

Raga, if it is was the brake booster hose, you would have gotten the P0171 code. The intake plenum is split just before the point where the PCV valve and the brake booster lines tap off of. So, depending on which one fails, you can end up with 1 of 2 codes.
Raga,
I'm not familiar with this hose, but Chris was advising either bodging it up with tape as a temp fix or just using a generic length of hose from an auto store,
Did you try either of those?
