Need help diagnosing what’s wrong with my car
My x type (2003 auto 3.0) has been a wip over the last few months. Finally did all the transmission fluid flushes and transfer case and diff fluid changes, and she drove great. For about 10 minutes before she started hesitating again while shifting. I thought it was strange because the transmission fluid is coming out perfectly red and the transfer case didn’t have a huge amount of chunks in it. The rear diff, however, did have a decent amount of metal in it, but nothing extreme which is why I thought there was a chance. So the morning after that I started her up for whatever reason with the door open, and as I did that I heard what I can only describe as a high pitched howl that matches my rpm coming most definitely from my rear end. I asked my girlfriend to rev it for me as I watched it and as she revved it the noise increased and it also seemed to make a slight grinding noise of sorts, and it also leaked fluid as she revved it. I did drive it for a couple days as I was forced to for the time being, but I have had it parked ever since one particular day, when she started to have a real tough time shifting, especially while turning. I also noticed a vibration that would get especially bad at around 50-55 mph and would only get worse with more speed. You could also hear a grinding of sorts while driving at speed. I just want to know if any of you think that my transfer case could also be going out or if it’s just my diff. I used the same fluid for the diff and the transfer case which I don’t think was exactly the best stuff for it but idk
You did not specify, which fluids you used as ATF and what for TC & diff.
From memory the fluid for the TC and for the diff is the same: full synth. 75 (or 80) W-140.
Metal in the diff is not a good sign.

Joshyboy, do you the check engine light? If so, you may have a solenoid that is grounding to the case and this is causing the tranny to act funny. Start there. Then lets see what we have.
