NEED TO MAKE SURE I"M NOT GETTING RIPPED OFF!!

I own an 2002 2.5L x-type jaguar which recently gave me problems which the engine light came on. I bring it down to the jaguar dealers and they tell me its the throttle body and it needs to be replaced. Then i brought it down to a different repair shop that would replace it for cheaper and now there telling me that its not my throttle body and that I need some type of tranmission computer i guess thats in the back of the car the needs to be replaced i guess which is near the engine i dunno. Can someone please help me out as to what they are talking about and where i could find one.

Go to AutoZone, get your engine codes checked. Post the code(s), we'll go from there.

I had the same thing happen to me, but I took it to AAMCO in California and they told me that I needed a new transmission completely and that 2002 Xtypes have a recall on the transmission that Jaguar isn't honoring. Well they were full of ****, I cleared the code and the car drove perfectly fine, and it has yet to come back. I'm about to post my own new problem... I would get a serious 3rd opinion.

As sparty said get the code checked on your own perhaps go buy a obdII tester. They can be had for quite cheap I'm sure you could get a used one on ebay for under a 100 bucks...Come back here with the code and well tell you what the problem is once you tell us what it is!

Do you know the codes that were present? Post them here and I'm sure we will be able to guide you.
You can check if you have any open campains or re-calls whenever you go to the dealership, just ask them for a DDW printout. (Dealer Direct Warranty).

Once in a while we see an early model X-type with the open transmissionre-call and no questions asked, the re-call has to be performed before the car leaves the dealership.
