Need a new engine... =(
For the background story read here.
What happened
Turns out I'm an idiot.
I have not gotten my oil changed in the 8,000 miles 6 months that I've owned the car.
I have a spun barring, i brought it to my mechanic to see what could be done and said to just get a new engine.
He told me that my oil levels were still "fine" that it was more likely a faulty barring that slipped.
Anyway, need a new 2.5L V6 engine for my Jag. Don't suppose anyone has one laying around?
I found one for $1500 with 55k miles on it. But I want to see if I could get a better one.
I'm also looking at anywhere from 2k-2500 With the cost of labor and new hoses and belts or whatever else might need to be changed about
I'm seeing a 4k engine job in my near future.

Edit: Is there anything in particular that I should be looking for? Or should I try to find one with the lowest miles?
Found a 3.0L with 46k miles on it for 1600, i understand that its a bigger engine, but would it work?

Ok gang, what's the current opinion on replacing the 2.5 with the 3.0? Does he need to replace any control modules along with the engine or would everything else from the 2.5 work?
Don't forget to include a Lincoln LS V6 in your search for a replacement.

As i just told another member in another thread where he was looking for some parts, go here: Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
best place that i've been able to find concerning parts. did a quick search for an engine assembly. I dont know what year you have but most of the engines with less than 64k miles were cheaper than $1500. I found a 2003 2.5L for $1150 with 34k. Its in Texas though, so shipping may bolster that $1150 to an unknown cost.
After doing another search though for engines in the state of NY, I was still able to find engines around or below your original mileage that are less than $1500 (some a few hundred dollars less). It seems you have a long road ahead (no pun intended) to finding a new engine.
P.S. Upon searching for a Lincoln 3.0 V6, I found a few entries significantly less than $1500 in NY state. Some at half that price. Lowest priced was $700 (59k).

pab, I was under the impression that the only difference between the 2.5 and 3.0 was internal and there were no sensors that need to be swapped from engine to engine. If he is going to be removing the sensors off of his old 2.5 anyways there will be no issues. I have seen people swap a 3.0 into a 2.5 without issues. I think someone has swapped a 3.0 lincoln LS into a 2.5 before by just swapping sensors.

Ya, there was some chatter about this a few months ago. However, I was too lazy to search for it. I hoped that somebody that had done the switch would have spoken up and, at least, pointed to the thread where this had been discussed.
