Default Need to sell my 2002 Kag X-type !

uPDATE: first person who looked at my Jag bought her. Sad to see her go, but the kids are really sweet…I told them to come here for advice! Thank you all for your help and advice through the years.

Hello dear friends who have helped me for most of my 21 years of owning and loving my 2002 Jag X-Type!

My kids (who store my Jag when I spend the winters in warm Puerto Vallarta) have ruled that I must sell my Jag cuz they can’t store it anymore…..

In August, the Jag lost power and after $800 replacement of sparks and coils and many diagnostics testing most everything, we all concluded that it was a clogged cat. (And when we pulled off the O2 sensor attached to the cat, sure enough it had power to spare, tho it’s as noisy as a hot rod drag racer!!!!

Anyway, the car has been sitting in the kids driveway while I went to Alaska and New Zealand for 6 weeks, but now I have to face the music. I put an ad on marketplace and have many people interested, but I’m a bit afraid that they will part out my car!!!!(new tires alone cost $600). I listed it for $999.

The car is registered in Colorado til August 2024, but the car is here in Santa Barbara, California. Cars in California have strict (and stupid) laws re cats and one must purchase new cats that are different than originals and costly. If cleaning this cat doesn’t work, I can get one mailed through a 3rd party for under $200.

My thought is to sell the car if I can, as is, and let the buyer know that he must reregister the car somewhere other than California unless the cleaned cat can pass the smog test here.

if I can’t sell it before I return to Mexico next week, I’m sure the kids will donate it to the veterans, which I’m not opposed to, but I’m afraid they will part it out and she doesn’t deserve that!

Any ideas? Anyone interested in making her beautiful once again? (Needs paint and some body work).

And Thermo, is there an easy way to disconnect the limp mode sensor…a fuse maybe? As it goes into limp mode at more than 3000 rpm’s?

Peace out! I had to buy a car back in August and the only one I found was a BMW sedan….it’s pretty and quiet, but an automatic…ugh!

Belle, sorry to hear that you sold your girl. But, you can always upgrade to an XF or XJ. HINT HINT HINT!!!!!!!!!! It will break your heart to do so. TRUST ME. Any way, you learned a bit about the car. Worst case, come out here to DC and you can pick up an XJ for fairly cheap and I will even help you find one.

As for your question about disabling the failsafe mode, no, there is no "pull this and it goes away". It is part of the programming of the ECM.

Your car may no longer be in your driveway but it will always be with you!

Enjoy your travels, my friend.
