maroun, it is a common problem that water wicks up the cable in the X-Types and will cause the cable to fail, leading to what you are seeing. Sometimes cleaning the ends will help things out, but in short, new cables are what you are going to need.
Since you have things apart and are finding parts, probably a good idea to do the positive battery cable too as it suffers from the same sort of problem.
After doing the cables, you should see that your car will start much easier and you may even see your mileage come back up a little bit.
