I recently started to install a Sony touch screen head unit in my 2004 X-Type. I got everything set, wires ran etc. But when I installed the unit, the car won't start or come out of gear. The only wire I didn't reinstall was the optics wire, since there was no where to plug it in. I called Crutchfield and they said I didn't need the optics. Would not plugging in the optics have anything to do with the security system locking up the car? Should I have disconnected the NEG on the battery before installation? The security was flashing rapidly when I tried to start it. NEED ADVISE

Check the J-gate shifter harnesses, probably knocked one loose.

If it thinks you are in gear, no start.
