New here with possible tranny problem
Hi, like the title says i just joined the forum. I bought a 2002 x type jag 3.0 about a month ago. Now the car sits in my driveway unable to move in drive or reverse. The lights on the shifter still illuminates for each gear i select but the car just won't move. Even when the car is in neutral it is extremely hard to push.
I have worked on a few cars before, but not an expert like most of you all are. Additionally i have another vehicle, so i could use this one to expand my knowledge and experience on mechanics.
Please if anyone can help me with this issue that would be great, also i can give updates on possible sugestions that any of you make.
Thank you.

Did you buy the car like that or was it running ok and then recently had the problem? If you bought it this way, what did the previous owner say were the circumstances when the issue happened?
Has any work been done recently to it? If so, please detail.

When i first purchased the car it ran fine, except the cruise control was not functioning. Beyond that no noises, griding, nothing.
The lights are part of the J gate assembly and doesn't mean it is shifting. You might want to get a helper and have them move the shifter back and forth thru the gears and verify the actuating arm on the transmission is moving. May have broke the shift cable. Next observe from under the vehicle that the cable is attached to the shift linkage.
