watch out for people staring at you as you drive around town. one guy was staring and almost walked into my fender while i was stopped at a light.

watch out for your friends and co-workers. they will all start to talk about you behind your back and ponder how YOU could afford a $50,000 car. (ya, they won't know any better)

watch out for the bmw drivers who think they are better than everyone else because they have a bmw. they like to cut you off a lot.

as for the car, the only real problem that most have reported deals with the prop shaft (drive shaft) going bad. with the amount of miles you have it will have been replaced by now or not be a problem at all. there are some other minor things, like the defrost vents on the dash popping up (dealer has new ones for sale, or a bit of superglue will do the trick), drivers window making noise as it goes up (clean the rubber trim), door handles and locks stop working (not all at once, and there are plenty of threads about this on this board), etc. mostly just nuisances.

use the search feature on this board, and the FAQ section. they will propbably answer any question you may have. welcome to the club.

Hey John n welcome to the forum bud

If you got a good 04 chances are most of the probs have been worked out and you shouldn't have too many problems.
My 02 should have a lot more as it is an earlier model and has been fairly trouble free.

Good luck

Post some pics up when ya get a chance

Jim

Welcome!

Hah, I definitely see a lot of starers when in the Jag. Personally, I like to stay low profile, but it was a new experience. Yeah, get some pics up. We like gawking at X-types!

I too am a new member, sorry don't mean to hijack this thread, but I read this post and it is unbeleivable how true everythig in it is.

I just bought an '03 2.5 X Type from a friend who brought it up from California (I am in the cold climes on Manitoba, Canada). Since I got it, I have at least 3 people ask me how I culd afford a 50K car, and the looks I get from people when I drive it are unbeleivable. I also noticed yesterday when I was driving it, the defrost vents were popped up and the drivers side window makes a hell of a lot of noise when it is moving up. Have not had any Beemer drivers give me problems yet, but I am sure in time I will ;-).

Anyways, great board, spent a couple hours looking through posts in the X-Type forum the other day, and have been looking around for some accessories recently for the car (floor mats, licence frames etc.).

I will have a few questions, but I will start my own thread once I have had a chance to search around.

Oh and I love the car, its my first and will not be my last.

Welcome all...hey itchy you can go to a jag dealer and they sell all the stuff you are looking for. The plates if I'm recalling correctly couldn't have been more than 30 I'd say 20 but it could have been my sight! You'd be surprised how decently priced the dealers part are compared to other prices...

Heres another thing about owning a Jag. When you park valet or get a car wash, etc ... they expect a Jaguar sized tip. And if you dont give them a nice big tip for owning a $50,000 car, you get the "you cheap sonovabitch" look ...

welcome btw. ... (im fairly new here myself)

although I dont get much looks for driving an X-Type as I live in NYC where EVERYBODY drives a BMW, MB, Lexus, Etc ... I get my fast food delivered in a cadillac ... go figure.

As for the vents, mine used to make lots of noise too. Then, one day I just rammed them down, and I heard them "snap" into place. They've been quiet ever since. Try it.
