Default New Member - Looking for Help, Shifter stuck

Hello all,

I am a new member who just purchased a 2004 X-Type today with 85,000 miles. The car is beautiful and I look forward to driving it. There are some issues I would ask anyone who could provide answers for advise.
1. Car has been sitting in a garage for a month. Today I went to drive the car home and while trying to shift from park to reverse the shifter would not move. The prior owner nor myself had any ideas so we tried moving the steering wheel back and forth and the shifter released. I tried to duplicate it a number of times and finally was able so I turned the streering wheel and it released. Any ideas?
2. Vent on top of left dash (drefroster) is loose and looks like it popped out. The clip is broken, could it be glued down or should I replace. Need to watch costs.
3. Drivers seat has a small tear by the shoulder, can I fix this myself or any suggestions (reasonable price) in the Boston area to repaired.
4. Driver seats seems to rock a little. Can this be tightened

Sorry for all the questions, very excited to be part of this group. Thank you all in advance. Mike

Welcome Mike.
1. Weird. No idea
2. I have this on the opposite side. I'm going to glue it.
3. I have the same issue. I'll post if I figure out a way to fix it.

Hi Michael,

I think we have all been plagued at some time with these dashed vents popping out, not one of the better ideas for Jaguar!

I think the best way is to silicon them back in nice and tight, at least if you need to go back in there it will pull, glue is not recommended.
Previously i have tried glue, a nice white stain all over the place and then double sided sticky tape meant for carpet which was fine until I turned the heat up and the glue melted POP!
I think it would be better to replace the screw but to ensure that you get the upgraded screw not the flimsy one that went into your car, there are 2 versions!
Try this post and then go for ebay/stores or similar:

I can't advise on the seat movement but Ltmax has a good intro post so it's worth looking at for restoring the leather?

Good luck, Stu
