Where can I find a shifter cable? Jaguar wants almost $400.00

 

One very important piece of information is missing that would make it easier to help.
What vehicle do you have? You can go the user control panel and list it in your signature for posts. It would be most helpful.

 

98 XJR... I have already added a picture and a signature but nothing shows up....

Can you tell us what is wrong with your current cable, just to add the problem to our knowledge base?

My first idea would be to purchase a good salvaged cable. eBay is a good place to find sellers who are parting out similar cars. If they don't have the cable listed on eBay, use eBay's messaging system to contact the seller and inquire.

Another possibility would be to make your own replacement using a cable kit from a racing supply like Summit Racing. Go to summitracing.com and search Throttle Cables to see the kinds of kits I'm talking about.

Regarding your signature and photo, there's no telling what went wrong, but please try again to add your signature. Hover your cursor over your username in the upper right corner of this page (lower right corner of the blue banner). In the dropdown menu, click the first option, User CP.

In your Control Panel, click on Edit Signature in the left column of options. Scroll down to the Edit Signature window and add your car info. Then be sure to scroll down further and click Save Signature. The info should then show up on all your posts.

Thanks for the info. But I already did the edit signature thing about five times and yes, I saved it, nothing changes. When I preview it it shows up, however when I save it it does not... Now it did

 

Are the shifter cables the same for the XJR and the XJ8 although the transmissions are different?

I previously responded to your other post about the cable.
Here are the part numbers:
1. Gear Control Cable
4.0 Litre Supercharged MNE4830BB 1
3.2 & 4.0 Litre Naturally Aspirated MNE4830AB 1

Odds are they are not going to interchange.

 

I'm in the middle of replacing the gear cable on my 2000 XJR. I can confirm that the XJ8 and XJR cables are different and not interchangeable.
