new torque convertor

new torque convertor
so I need a new torque convertor
I have been reading-up on the engine removal threads, dropping the entire powertrain out the bottom etc
but if you just want to change the TQ - what do the "heavy" techs think the best approach is?
(1) the jfenley method of dropping everything out the bottom involves of course dropping the subframe
(2) would it be any easier to take just the engine out the top way - thus leaving the gearbox, transfer box, subframe untouched. Nobody seems to have tried or at least documented this as far as I can tell
(3) can the gearbox alone come out through the top? that would still need all the shafts off and the transfer box off - and maybe the subframe??
opinions please!! a new TQ is coming in the post ASAP

When I went to NP02 (X-Type intro coarse) Jaguar wanted the engine/gearbox removed complete with subframe on a special hydraulic table but the first one I did I just removed the subframe, left the engine hanging with a cross beam type hanger and lowered the gearbox enough to move left and down. The TC needs to come off but it seemed to me to be the most efficient way to replace the gearbox. Later we got a revised method for replacement and this TSB describes the procedure.

plums, don't quote me and I think it has been discussed here before but i think this "service action" ended about 2007. If it wasn't done by then, it won't be done. The problem was identified early (note the complete on UNSOLD vehicles first instructions) and within the specific VIN numbers. Usually the replacement would have been completed when the customer had any type of service performed, if it was one of the suspect autoboxes. If your VIN was involved, you should be able to check at the Dealer to see if the replacement was done, or check the serial number on your tranny as per the TSB.
