No driver side dipped headlight + total power failure issue
Hi everyone
Hoping someone can help me out or at least point me in the right direction. Apolgies for any naievity but i'm not usually one to manually have a go. My driver side dip light is not working. I had it replaced about a week agio but failed again. Took it back to Halfords and the bulb was fine.
They checked the fuse box and nothing there seems to have blown and suggested it could be a relay. I can't find my manual after hunting high and low either. All other lights are fine both externally and internally.
But more worryingly, twice in the past two weeks, the car has literally died. Was in drive and suddenly all power gone. No lights, internally, externally, alarm would work. Put into park, removed key, tried again and nothing. No life. Both times, it just cleared after a few minutes and worked fine for the journey home and started fine again next day.
The light is an issue at this time of year but the power loss is very worrying indeed. Any pointers, suggestions or ideas would be most grateful.

From the sounds of things, your complete power loss is related to a bad ground cable going to the battery.
As for the headlight, I would start with checking the plug for the headlight assembly. I would also check the individual fuses for the low beams (there is a common fuse for the low beams on the input and then individual fuses on the output of the relay).
On a side note, are you losing all lights in the housing or just the headlight? This question is helping me narrow down what wiring it may be.

Regarding the dipper light out issue,
I had same issue with my 06 XKR.
My first step was to verify it wasn't the bulb
by switching bulbs from one side to the other.
(be careful not to touch the glass portion of the bulb).
Next I checked voltage at the plug into the headlamp assembly,
to verify the fuses, wiring & switches.
Turned out I had a bad ballast due to moisture in the headlamp assembly.
Found a used one on ebay for $110.
