maxson, first off, welcome to the forums. I think you will find lots of good information here. But, we are quirky in that we also ask something of you too. Please stop by the New Member Section and introduce yourself. We like to get to know one another as we pride ourselves in being a cut above the rest and getting to know one another. Besides, this will also give you a chance to meet those that make this place what it is. So, grab a cup of joe, sit back, relax and enjoy the site.

As for your issue, I would venture to guess that you are simply just low on tranny fluid. If you look on the top of the tranny, there is a fill plug and then on the side is a level plug. The fluid level should be up to the bottom edge of the level plug. I think you will find that you are 1-2 quarts shy and that is what is causing what you are seeing. Granted, I would be asking where the fluid is going and fixing that too so you don't have this issue in the future.

If this doesn't fix your issue, let us know and we will take things from there.

I agree with Thermo on this one; it sounds like a low tranny fluid issue. Get some good tranny fluid that meets "Jatco 3100 / IDEMITSU K17" specs and dump 2 quarts in there. Make sure you go through the process of checking the level of the transmission fluid, draining off any extra. I would also recommend Sea Foam Trans-Tune, half a bottle or a full bottle of that.

Get that done and let us know how it goes!

Default Similar problems with manual transmission

I'm new to this forum as well but wanted to chime in and mention that I am having the same symptoms, except with a 5-speed manual transmission.

I actually just broke down yesterday on my way home with a car load of people..

Here's what happened, I was driving on the freeway at a constant speed when all of a sudden it felt like the transmission jumped out of gear or the clutch had just been pushed in. I tried changing gears, pumping the clutch, etc. but there was just nothing there. Coasted to the side of the road, turned the engine off, started it back up, but there is nothing. Had to be towed the rest of the way home. The strange thing to me is that there was no warning before it happened. No strange noises or vibrations. Even when it went out there were no noises. The clutch pedal still feels the same, engine runs fine, and I can shift through the gears smoothly. Almost seems like the input shaft just snapped all of a sudden. Not sure what else would cause this.

My plan is to get the car on jack stands this evening after work and begin inspecting all the moving parts and begin the process of removing the transmission.

Well, after further inspection it looks like my problem is in the transfer case.. Looks like I will be doing a swap in my near future.

Hopefully this is not the case for your car, but if the transmission seems to check out, you may want to take a closer look at your T-case as well.

I will go to the new member section. When this happens the car has no park either. If it sits it will move about a block and then same problem. I have replaced and moved the tcm previously. Thanks for any help.
