noise behind dash on x type
hi i have a jag x type ds on a 03 plate.
can anyone tell me what the constant whirring noise behind the dash (around the radio/aircon system) is? It is constantly on regardless of whether the ignition is on or off. Not only is it worrying but also very annoying!!!

(I've moved your post from General Tech to X-Type section because it's model-specific and you should get relevant advice from members with the same vehicle here)
When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST section and post an intro about yourself and your X-Type for all members to see.

tootles, first off, welcome to the forums. Like the above posts mention, introduce yourself. You will find that we are a friendly bunch here and we like to get to know one another. Follow their advice and see what happens.
As for your noise, that is a common people have. The noise that you are hearing is coming from the small grate to the left of your steering wheel (since you have a right hand drive car). That grate houses a small fan that pulls in the interior air and measures its temp for the A/C system in the car so it can maintain the temp of the interior. If you stop the car and sit in the driver's seat for around 5 minutes or so, you will hear that fan shut down. So, no need to worry about it draining your battery. If it is starting to make noise, it may have lived its life and a new fan will be required. Replacing it isn't all that hard.
