Default Noise from under the hood

Hey guys,

When I turn my car on or even when I'm driving there seems to be a ticking noise, then when I start driving the ticking noise happens faster so I'm thinking its a belt?

Has anyone one else experienced this?

Thanks for the help in advance

EDIT: I did a little research and I found this :

Clacking noise that increases with engine speed

The tensioners for the cam-to-cam timing chains come apart. The plastic face that touches the chain comes off and the metal base of the tensioner rides on the chain. The car will clack but perform fine until one day the chain will snag on the broken tensioner, it will derail, and the valves will bend. In addition, when the tensioner fails the pieces may tangle in the guides for the main timing chain.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to fix this, because it seems serious.

I would do as what was said by this member above.Unplug and see if it goes away.
Can be a lot of things.
Have you done a resent oil change?
High mile engine?
Can you pin point the location if it,is on top on one side, front side or center,or coming from the bottom of the engine?
If you have a steel pipe you can put it right against the engine and the other end to your ear.Move it around the engine to see if you can get a better idea of location of the ticking sound.
Stay clear of the belts and do not have loose clothing on while leaning over a running engine.BE SAFE.
I got to get going but some one may chime in and help you better.
Good luck.

It sounds as thought its coming from the top of the engine. I just got an oil change 3 days ago with full synthetic and the noise is still there. Its a strange ticking noise that gets faster with acceleration.

This is just a guessing game not knowing the location of the noise.
Injectors tick.
Flex plate bolts coming loose. At start up it would be a BIG clankity clank.
Exhaust leak,tick tick tick.
Well this got you up on top again for others to help you out.
Good luck.

Heres my story so far. First mechanic diagnosed it as being the AC compressor, so i replaced that and no change. Then the people at the AC shop said it was the tensioner and Idler pulley, had those changed and still no change. Now ive gone in for a third inspection and they took everything appart and swear that it is the Alternator.... So i'm off to the salvage yard to pick one up and install myself. I'll keep you posted.

What solved my noise was adding lubricant to the AC system. Your first mechanic may have been right but had the wrong (but very expensive) solution.

But my car makes this noise even when the a/c is off. Actually now that we are talking about A/C my system is leaking either from the condenser or compressor. Im getting it checked out friday but I'm doubtful the leak has to do with the problem.
