Question 'o2 X, w/36k Opinion

Well... the Bug hasn't left yet so I've continued to look. I called a seller yesterday that has an 2002 X, sunroof, heated seats, leather with really Low miles, white, tan leather. 2.5 w/automatic. I've dug and read here for hours in the past week. The only concern is that I have found is the transfer case problems.

Since I have been a Mechanic I'm pretty Froggie on this one.

What's your Opinion on the early X-Type?

Yea?

Nea?

Keep looking?

I'd say that unless the price was really really attractive to keep on looking.

I think most on this forum would recommend a 2004+ model.

Are you saying you suspect that the car in question has transfer case issues?

All X-Types have a transfer case issue...
It's just that the earlier ones may be worse since the case can mechanically crack due to twisting with the drive train.

Kinda the way I read it.

Drove the 'o2 this morning. It had some paint work done that wasn't up to my Standards. It was OK but not as pristine as I expected. He said he was firm on $7200.00 so I said "Thanks" and left. I'm not in any big hurry so I'll keep digging.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking 'o4 and up but... We'll see.

Ya, too much...

But I noticed that you're located "in the south", right? I understand that Florida is a very good place to look for X-Types. Seems that lots of retired folks bought them and are now giving up driving.

Check the listings around large retirement villages.
