Oil Change
There is a auto repair shop in the next town that specializes in British and German cars. I've known about the place for years, but never used them as I heard good things and not so good things about there work. I called them today to price an oil change for my 2.5L. The quoted $150US. that is more then the Jaguar dealer charges. I asked why so expensive. The person I spoke with said you have to use Mobil 1 "hyper synthetic" oil 0w40 and it is very expensive oil. I said to him the manual calls for 5w30 oil and either synthetic or dino oil. I said thanks but no thanks. I went to Mobil 1 website and there is no such oil as hyper synthetic. I guess people must think everyone is stupid out there. I also when to there website and they have a customer comment page. there were 4 comments two good two no good. so they are at a 50% average for service and workmanship.

Theres no way it should cost $150 even with Mobil1 0W-40 and a fleece filter and full labor
Performing the oil changes myself on my 2002 Mercedes ML320 only cost $80 tops. Factory fill for the Mercedes was 9qts of the exact Mobil1 0W-40 European Formula full synthetic that the shop quoted you and a Mann fleece oil filter. The job on that truck took me 30 minutes tops.
Mobil1 0W-40 is very, very good synthetic oil. I believe I was able to get mine from AutoZone or Wal-Mart for $6-8/quart. I don't know how these engines take to that oil though.

I hate when people think you stupid and try to charge you for this crap. I recently had to get an O2 senor replaced and I asked how much it would cost out the door and I was quoted a little over a grand. Reason being, I had to replace two O2 sensors since one was bad it was ruining the other one by driving around. I politely left and will never go back to that shop. It was ridiculous, I went to a Big O Tires just a mile away and was quotes $250 out the door. Job fixed, honest mechanic.
This isn't the first time this has happend. You just can't trust mechanics these days! No offense if their are any on this site.
