Default Oil Leak?

I have a problem. I have only had my 02 X Type Sport 3.0 for a month now. After I had it for one week I started to smell oil after I drove it but didnt see any oil under the car. After two more weeks (last week) I saw a spot of oil on my driveway. I took the car to my mechanic. He no speak good Ingles, but he bean berry, berry good to me[sm=smiley9.gif]. He put it up on the rack and found lots of thick black oil[/i] all over the undercarriage shield. He said that the fluid was not engine oil or transmission fluid.

He said it appeared to be splashing up onto the undercarriage from around the end of the driveshaft when I drive.

there was a loose clamp. He tightened on another clamp and said it shouldnt leak anymore but if it does dont bring it back to him because he doesnt want to work on my Jag. Its been a week and I havent seen any more spots or smelled any more oil.

Sounds like a leak from the transfer case.

You may want to check the fluid level in the transfer case to insure you are not below minimum. If ok, drive fast and brake hard.

The shield only covers the very front of the car and keeps debri mainly away from the fan and radiator area. From underneath you can see the belts of the engine all the way to the back of the motor. He should be able to see something leaking without removing any plastics???
