Default Oil leak and burning oil smell in cab

Whats up I'm Jay and I just became a new first time owner of a Jaguar. I bought it from a co-worker cheap to get around in its a 2005 Jaguar X-type AWD with 219000 (highway) miles. It is in decent condition and drives strong considering but I am wondering is it worth putting money into it.

Jay, the oil smell is common if you have just done an oil change. The factory put the oil filter directly above the exhaust pipe. So, when you change the oil, it will drip down on to the exhaust and burn off. After that, I would be looking at the front valve cover to see if it is leaking and dripping down to this same spot. Those are the 2 most common issues. The front valve cover is pretty easy to change the gasket on. The big thing with that is making sure you tighten all the bolts evenly. Also, going tighter does not make this gasket seat better (if anything, makes it seat worse). Make sure the cover and head surfaces are clean and smooth (may need to take a greenie scouring pad to get the old gasket off) and then put on the new gasket and gently tighten.

Looks like it could also be a oil pan gasket - very common, not tooooo terrible to change

I would clean it up and monitor till you pin point the leak.

Worst case, just make sure the oil level is always topped off if you don't plan on fixing it.
