Talking Oil Catch Install (In Pictures)









Can't remember who it was who did the oil catch, OB? Someday? I tried to find the relevant post but anyway which ever one of you thanks for the inspiration maybe now my filter won't get clogged with sludge and drip onto the manifold and smoke out the entire highway. Special thanks to Grant for suggesting massive quantities of beer with any repair job...I'm enjoying the 2L cans.

1/2 to 3/8 barb jammed into the existing vent cap on front of engine fits nicely, then its all 3/8 hose to canister, filtered air to small crossover pipe (until I find a better port to connect to)

filterbox holes sealed with RTV until I find rubber caps big enough but its all cured and sealed now.

I have no idea at all where that is lol. I haven't touched the engine besides oil change and coolant top up lol. Thats my winter project. Tear top down and rebuild, ditch emissions and clean it all up.

Often the oil screen under this cap is clogged, obstructing ventilation, and the plumbing off of it and to filterbox has a sad non-functioning crank vent, just another of the 1000 items neglected on the car by the previous owner.

Now that I know what area you are talking about, basically this system replaces that stupid filter and that metal pip that goes from the rubber elbow to the air box?

Yes. Here is a snap or two of mine.
But you boys do not thrash your cars enough! My catch can has a smidge of clearsh stuff in it and no black crap! Fully synthetic oil and high speed load does wonders for these cars!



The pipes run forward-ish out of the pig snout, through past the rad and along the bracer to the can, and then from the can back to A bank inlet manifold where I have a spare spigot. I cannot recommend this too highly; air box clean, another pipe out from across the V; and I have a dinky little dipstick in my can that shows if it is getting full. In 5000 miles it had about 3mm of stuff in it.

Greg, I also have a question about the detail circled in the photo below. Are those soft hoses connected to the trumpets? And are they soft so they can be there AND allow the bonnet to close? Cool air for the intake?



And where is your skinny tubing that runs out of the top RH and across the top of the Rad?

do you use any type of crankcase VACUUM in your system?
also a pic of my expansin tank mounted as hi as i could get it without removing angle brace! also top radiator cross over bleed dont show in pic?

lower pic shows road draft tube CC vent!
no vacuum in lower case, im changing that with catch can, in the R&D process?? need a vacuum to keep oil leaks at bay!
typical Jaguar (never finished ),LOL!

j j j, the vent tube comes out of the factory rubber elbow, and turns straight down hangs out just below the cross member in a sucktion when driving down the road!
it works well for keeping low pressure in the crankcase, drips some oil, not nice!
so i need a slight vacuum in the crankcase, to REDUCE oil seal leaks , that are standard practice for Jaguar cars for years , until Ford stepped in and redesign things!
hope i get my catch can done before i sell car!
the pic of manifolds shows a different setup but sucks a lot of oil into the inlet manifolds ,again not good, so a catch can along with some vacuum is on the drawing board?

have any here ever seen the catch cans on a TOP FUEL drag car, they are size of least 2 gallons , and that use two of them!
wow talk about blowby, they drain them every run!

Did you remove the PCV valve entirely and hook up the outlet of the catch tank there?

Valve is deleted, filter boxes blanked off. Suction is direct from engine crank elbow to canister then on over to the small manifold crossover pipe

Kept it, works well after a soak in paint thinner
