Default Oil light stays on even with the key off

I have a 2002 jaguar x type 2.5 and I just bought it about 2 months ago. I havent had any problems with the car until last night. It rained all day and when I got off work I drove home which is about 50-60 miles and had no problems.Once I got home me and my lady were going to run to Wal-Mart,went outside started it up backed up and when I shifted into first it like hiccuped and died. The oil light stays on even with the key off. Still new to the car and when I bought it I didn't even get the owners manual and I'm not sure where I should start. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

It sounds as though your oil pressure switch has failed. If the car was running well and just shut down with the red light lit, it the sensor. I have attached the page from SNG Barratt, a forum sponsor, for the sensor.
It is fairly easy to change but you will have to remove the oil filter to get access to it. It is mounted next to and slightly behind the filter.

Awesome thats a lot better then I was afraid I was just stuck wondering why the light stayed on with the key out so I disconnected the positive cable on the battery so it wouldn't drain it. Thank you again I will try that and let you know how it goes.

Sorry I just had one more question would that pressure switch also cause the entire car to have no power except that light? I just wanted to double check I already ordered the part and I'm curious if there is a way I can get the power on because my window is down a little and I dont want it to rain in the car and I need to get my tools out of the trunk?

It shouldn't cause no power to headlights, interior lights and such. It will prevent the car from starting so no power to the starter maybe even the instrument cluster since it is shutting down power to the ECU and maybe affecting the CAN bus

Ok again thank you I'm just trying to figure something out because my tools are locked in the trunk and without power I can't get them. The nearest dealership is about 300 miles from where I live and I'm pretty mechanical just never owned a jaguar before and this has me stumped. I ordered the part yesterday and it came in this morning so I will let you know how it goes once I get it in. I sure hope it solves my problem.

Well I changed the sensor and it is still doing the same thing nothing changed. But we did take out the box fuse under the hood that controls power for the fuse box under the dash and we got power to the lights, turn signals, windows, and the trunk but now we can't replicate it again so I can plug the obd2 into it to try and get a reading. Any suggestions?
