Outer cv joint came loose

Outer cv joint came loose
I was replacing my front shocks and I managed to undo it I think , it feels loose now but if I rotate it slightly the other wheel moves too but if I keep twisting the black cover it seems to twist into it's self.
not sure what to do because I don't know if I'm after disconnecting anything or not
