I say try the citric acid and see what happens. What is the worst thing that is going to happen? You have to still replace the cat? Oh boo hoo. I'm sure you are not going to like going in after the cat twice, but for what it can possibly save you, i think it is an option atleast worth trying. Besides, someone needs to be the guinea pig and you seem to be interested in doing it.

Its not bad to get at, can probably get it in and out in less than an hour now. I will pick up some citric acid tomorrow and give it a try.

So I cleaned the cat and reinstalled it. Ran the car and it still was doggish. Then I remembered that cylinder 1 had a misfire. So I bought a coil pack and 6 spark plugs and installed them tonight. I still have a engine light on, but the car runs like a top. I will get the codes checked and cleared tomorrow. Hope it takes care of it.

I put 1 pound of citric acid in enough water to cover the cat. I simmered it on the stove for 7 hours. Had the hood fan running, had no odor. Car still runs great, I did have the codes cleared, but one came back on. I will see what that is on Monday.

Just wanted to say that I'm in Wisconsin too and if your in the Madison area I have a code reader. I am also Heading to Sheboygan today to visit relatives if you are in between Madison and Sheboygan I would be happy to read codes for you. I just bought my Jag a month ago and I am definitely looking for new people to network with. Just replaced rear brakes and front headlight washer cap. I also found a guy in madison that would make me another key for a 100 bucks Automotive Locksmith, Madison WI, Car Keys, Locks, Remotes. Better than dealer for 370!

Have a good one!

Spare keys can be obtained for not too much cash. You can programme the fobs yourself. You just need the key cutting. You should be able to do it for less than fifty. check out the forum.

Spare keys are no problem to acquire off of eBay. But if u only have one u need to get the transponder programmed or goto a good locksmith like I did to get it clone. I did a lot of research on this forum before I got the key made. It is a special key cutting machine that can cut this key. The way I did it for a 100 bucks was by far a good deal. Fobs are extremely easy to program yourself. The keys are another story. If u know where I can get one for fifty please let me know, because I would really like another one!

Thanks, I have a buddy that owns a shop and borrows me his reader. The code I have is a Catalytic Bank 1 code. Car is still running great though. I am going to check on changing the sensors.
