I am a total noob here and I am posting for my father.

He has an 02 X-Type with a 2.5 engine and 198K miles on itand we were told by a reliable mechanic that we need to replace the oxygen sensors.

I just have a few questions:

1) Where are they on the car?
2) How Many are there on the car?
3) Where can I get them?
4) How Much do they cost?

My Father and I have both workes on cars for years, but never replaced oxygen sensors.

The problems with the car are:
1) the car is bucking at like 3000 RPM when accelerating only when the "cruise not available" message is on
2) Check Engine light is always on
3) Car smells like something is burning

where are you located.. maybe we can help you get the OBD codes read.

there are 4 O2 sensors.. they are screwed into the exhaust systems just before and just after the Catalytic converter.... and there are two cats on the X, hence the 4.

They each can give bad readings and trigger the check engine light. but normally an O2 sensor fault will not give horrible performance. typically the car will resort to some default setting for the fuel mixture and run reasonably well. the car will likely fail an emissions test and the fuel economy is usually affected.

Ask your mechanic to explain the logic behind changing every o2 sensor.

 

I dont think we have single wire o2 sensors.. that weblink is not for the right kind.
I looked in the JTIS and the heated o2 sensors are pre-cats, and the catalyst sensor is in each catalyticconverter.

My dad paid 22K for the car4 years ago, it las less than 30K miles on it.

 

I live in north eastern pa.

 

The trans was rebuilt about 20K miles ago. My father and I have done regular maintenance like oil chages, andspark plugs.
