From the looks of it when I had my tranny out for my recent clutch change, i'm sure those o2 sensors are hell to get to. Not sure how much it costs, though. So I'd just start callin around or try to do it yourself.

How much did you pay for that car? 198k is a lot of miles for an 2002.

Pull the codes first. See what engine codes you have before hauling off and start changing things.

Hmmm...that sounds really interesting...crazy that an 02 sensor would cause that...must be the jaguar in it! I've had bad 02 sensors on my cars before and couldn't tell that anything was wrong at all???

Yeah unless it had a lifetime powertrain warranty! Seats and other things for most cars are quite inexpensive now that we have ebay to buy stuff...

Preciesly, if you're getting a burning smell in the cabin, I'm willling to bet you've been riding on failing down-stream O2's for a while. To the point that either your pre-cats or shot, or the cat itself. Get the engine codes pulled, that'll tell you for sure.

Cats and pre-cats are crazy expensive. However, there are ways around it i.e. gutting the precats and using a MIL eliminator to make sure you're not throwing a code or placing a straight pipe in place of cat (find the shadiest exhaust shop in town, b/c this is illegal) !

If it is just a down-stream O2 sensor, and that only. I dunno, probably $30-50 for the part.
