I had mine on the 4 wheel dyno (143 whopping HP) and it was capable of driving the wheels at 124MPH in 4th gear and 120MPH in 5th gear. It's clearly "speed limited".

As I understand it, the car is capable of 140MPH without the speed limiter. Not exactly supercar territory.

The dyno operator said that we could disconnect the speedo pickup and it might spin the wheels faster. But I felt there was no point. I was able to reach nearly 6700RPM in 4th gear and get the entire torque curve.

I don't know if it would work on the X-type, but I suspect it would.

By the way, the 2.5L engine is an acceptable performer with the manual trans. It's not in any way an under-performer, when compared to the average sedan. While I don't get blistering 0-60 times, I've been able to achieve 8 seconds fully loaded with a car full of co-workers. And well into the mid 7 second range when solo. In fact, on a cold day, with an empty tank of gas and the spare removed, I've been able to come very close to 6 seconds 0-60. But that requires being quite hard on the clutch with a very high RPM launch. Not something I want to do regularly.

One day, I'll post some pics of my car going down the strip at Moroso (Palm Beach intl raceway) . It's kind of funny to see a jag out there.

Cool, been trying to find one but they are scarce. What was the torque and what were the RPM's. Were the curves linear or peaky? What's the rated HP of the 2.5?

The torque curve was fairly linear, with a smooth drop off down low and up high. Can't remember peak torque. I'm not sure where the printout is anymore. Probably buried under mountains of paperwork.

Rated HP is, I think, 193, so I lost 50HP in the drivetrain, assuming the engine makes rated HP at all. Which I am not willing to assume.

There was some talk about drivetrain losses and the number was not as high as 50HP.

Was that 143hp crank or wheel horsepower?

had an '03 2.5 for about 3 weeks now and got her up to 115 on the Jersey Parkway . Kept cruising around 100 for a few miles (No traffic at 4 am while headed down the shore) . Really nice riding at those speeds. My last car was a '94 Continental (RIP) which rode beautifully up to about 75 mphs, but the Jag doesn't seem to have any issues hitting 80+.

I just took my 2002 2.5 on a trip from Orlando to Miami on the lovely I-95. It was a weekend and the road was empty. The car cruised at 75 all day without flinching. I got it up to 95, but the FHP tend to wolfpack on weekends so I didn't push it.

Side note... yesterday I had 2 tires fitted to the back and when the guy checked the pressure on the front, it was up over 50psi! Damn! Understandably the ride is far better now the psi has been reduced!

Topped mine out in going to upstate NY hit 126MPH with me my girlfriend and our camping stuff. I run on 93 octane. I was at about 5500rpm I suspect it could hit 130
