you could DIY depending on your mech aptitude and what tools you have, yes you probobly broke it when you lifted it, but only cause it was old. Not that you did something wrong, and no you dont need and alignment afterwards. But look at you tires, if theres more than a 2/32nds diference in tread depth between the inside and outside treads, then you need an alignment anyway.

My tires are fairly new and if i recall I may have let the car down a little harder 1 time.
Can you tell me what is envolved? I will pull the wheel off this weekend and map it out. How long do you think I can go on this bushing in the manner? What is the downside of not replacing it?

YOU DONT HAVE TO REPLACE IT UNTIL IT BREAKS COMPLETLY, RIGHT NOW ITS JUST GOING TO GIVE YOU A NOISIER FRONT END SINCE ITS PURPOSE IS TO CUT DOWN NOISE VIBRATION AND HARSHNESS. BUT TO REPLACE, ON JACK STANDS SO SUSPENSION HANGS. REMOVE WHEEL SPRAY EVERYTHING WITH RUST BUSTER OF YOUR CHOICE. REMOVE TORX BOLT FROM UPRIGHT THAT GOES THROUGH BALL JOING SHAFT, I BELIEVE ITS A T60. REMOVE 15MM BOLT IN FRONT BUSHING, AND NUT FROM BOLT IN BACK 1. KNOW THE BACK BOLT UP ENOUGH TO CLEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME, THIS WILL ALLOW MORE FREEDOM TO SWING ARM OUT IN FRONT THEN PULL BALL JOINT SHARFT FROM UPRIGHT. AFTER THIS THE CONTROL ARM SWINGS FREELY ALLOWING YOU TO PIVOT IT SO YOU CAN TAKE THE BACK BOLT OUT CLEARING THE FIREWALL. INSTALL REVERSED

No need for re-alignment as Brutal said...from what I remember from researching it when I thought mine was bad it didn't seem too incredibly difficult. There are places that actually sell jaguar parts too, you don't have to go to the dealer to get the part.

RE: Small amount of oil on garage floor...
I have changed mine myself at home.
The lower arm is much easier to get off if you lower the subframe an inch. This is easy to do, just 2 smallerbolts on the rear bracket then 2 front and rear crossmember bolts. Only lower one side of the subframe at a time, otherwise you need to get THAT re-aligned.
Overall this is an easy job, but some of the bolts are biggish and hard to turn, you need half decent socket to do it. Not the walmart type.
Best to get parts from JagGenius if you are in Canada...

I never had to change it but I did look into having to replace the control arm. Look at it this way at least you'll also be getting a new ball joint! I figured it was my ball joint making noises but it was a sway arm bushing if my memory serves me...
