Is it plastic or metal?

I feel for any live animal that may be straddled by your car. <gulp> can you say, decapitation?

It's plastic, you can tell from the picture.

More info though...What does it exactly do? I can't imagine how that piece of plastic prevents the transfer case oil from evaporating![&o] Looks like it just bolts up?

Interesting...DID ALL the X's come with those?..I don't remember ever seeing one on mine and the guys at the dealer never pointed out if it was missing (I've walked around underneath while it was on the lift many times with them)..I'll have to check now to see if mine was busted off or ever there.

I couldn't, but I suppose if it were metal, we'd see some corrosion...so deductively, plastic?

Pretty sure it is on there to help cool the TC by scooping up air under the car. Mustve been an afterthought that the TCs were getting overheated, and causing premature failures, so tried to help. From reading the x-types posts, the TC isn't exactly the most reliable, perhaps everyone should get their duct back on.

Thanks Bo...Can anyone get me one PLEASE!

I just checked under the car..the wifie had it before when I posted above..But now I see the one nut holding it on and the broke off corner of it, that is all of it that remains..I called the Jag dealer and they ordered me one for $79.00 and the Parts guy even said Holy **** that's expensive for a little piece of molded plastic..

So, can any of the Jag Techs here help me out with an employee discount..?

Thanks in advance

Hmmm...so may ask why you guys didn't just take any old plastic piece and screw it on?

I highly doubt this incredible piece of plastic is going to be so aerodynamics that heat transfer is so significant!

Sorry, I can't justify spending that much, especially since 1.) It's plastic and apparently is very prone to falling off 2.) Seems like an easy diy job.

That, or call up the bone-yards.

Just a thought.

I am not so sure that mine came with a shield. There was no broken off peice, no bolt hole for it, and when jaguar replaced my transfer case due to a bearing tolerance defect, they said nothing about it nor put one on there. I cant see the pics at work, but my TC has aluminum heat sinks molded into the body. even after an hour drive in the summer and throwing it up on a lift, it stays relatively cool.
