Its probably the most common question on the forum
Fitting an aftermarket HID kit is really the only and best option
Lots more info using the search and in the FAQ section at the top of the forum

I am having the same problem.

My left headlight actually burned up and is basically shot. Can't even get the old bulb out.

BuckMR2 - With the HID lights will I need to replace the wiring on the side that burned up? Not sure how they work...TIA

Your standard non Xenon lights would need to be in good working order before fitting the new kit.
The aftermarket HID kits usually come with all the wiring, bulbs, ballasts, cable ties etc to be able to connect it to your existing headlamps but obviously wont come with any wiring to fix non working lamps

The front bumper needs to come off to remove the headlights however it can be left in place just to add the HID kit

Here is a picture of mine that burnt up...I want to put in a HID kit but obviously have to fix this first!! I've read a few things about cutting the wires and putting connectors on it but can anyone point me in the right direction on where to get these?

Thanks

Ah, that's exactly what my connector looked like when mine burnt up. Both headlights burnt up within two weeks of eachother. I actually had mine done at the dealership for a cost of $135. I know if you look in the general tech and tips forum and also this forum (X-Type) there are two threads dedicated to this problem. If you read through those they will show you where to get the connectors.
What HID kit did you get and where did you order it? I'm also thinking of upgrading...

I have not ordered mine yet...wondering if I need to fix (the one in the picture) or if I can just wire it right into the HID Kit...not sure how they work or the best ones out there.

That connector NEEDS to be replaced, it's faulted internally. It's useless. Replace that and get a cheap bulb and see where you stand.

obviously it needs fixing. if regular halogen headlamps caused the the hids will only further damge your electrics. get a new harness and solder it on there. you can get generic harness's at radio shack and the likes or get them from a dealer.

Has anyone used this to cure the problem? Will it work?

Can I still do the HID upgrade with this?

Thanks!

Default headlamp socket fused

Had the same thing happen to both sided of by 04 headlamp low beams. Ordered the 4300 hid kit and am now searching for the wiring diagram someone posted one this site of the solution of having two ground wires, one to bulb and one to back of headlamp and then yellow wire to bulb as positive lead. Does this bypass need to be done when you replace with HID lamps ? thanks ch
