Popping and Farting maybe VVT or Turning flap?
Hi all, I'm cap in hand asking for some assistance, I have a 2002 2099cc x Type with a strange problem
It has exhaust gases passing back up the inlet, the OBD says bank 2 is too rich, So its got me thinking VVT system on the exhaust camshaft out of sync? to allow the gases back up the inlet.

Job for the weekend is a compression check I know, but when it revs up when the faults are cleared she purrs, so the main issue appears to be mostly on idle, but wondering if anyone has had this problem in the past.
I have just brought this car so don't know too much about this other than its done 128000 miles.
I have renewed the oil and flushed it, New plugs, and a new coil stick.
Thanks

w0z, looking at the codes, it is seeming like you have a fuel injector that is sticking and leading to what you are seeing. Granted, look at the potential problems as listed on the Jaguar troubleshooting chart, you may also have a problem with one of the following too:
-MAF sensor
-throttle position sensor
-Engine Coolant sensor
-Intake air temperature
So, if you can, see if you can find someone that can look at the real time data for your car and see if those sensors are reading a steady value or if they are jumping around. If it is jumping around, then that would be the sensor I would go after first.
Just to add a bit more confusion into the mix, the P1642 code is saying that you have a CAN bus problem most likely with the ECM. That may be affecting the ECM, leading to the noises that you are hearing.

I have changed the 6 injectors only £30 came off known car but didn't work, I have also changed the manifold turning flaps.
Next thing to do is a compression check, just waiting for one to turn up, wish me luck lol
I've also just purchased a clone JLR tool £99 on Ebay hopefully give me a better idea than the OBD tool
