Default Popping sensation when turning steering wheel

Hi all,

My 2004 X-type 3.0 has just recently developed a popping sensation when turning the wheel right or left. It does this when in motion and when stationary. I've had it in park with the hood up and cannot hear any noise the accompanies the feeling. It's best described as a successive series of pops that travel up the steering column while the wheel is being turned but not when it's stationary. My guess is that it's the tie rod ends, and the coil springs are binding slightly when the wheel is turned. I'd like some input from more knowledgeable people first though, before I go running out to lunch buy parts. Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the reply. I'll have to see about getting the car up to test that. It does pull (sometimes) when I hit a bump or a pothole or something.
