Default Positive battery cable

'hopped in my X-Type this am, pulled out of the garage and noticed the battery warning light illuminated. 'pulled back in the garage, 'hopped in the wife's X-Type pulled out of the garage and drove to work.

The positive battery cable on my X-Type was very hot to the touch and I recall reading several post here about it being common to fail. Is there anything special (connectors) about the cable or can I remove it and go to Autozone or O'Reillys and get a replacement?

Thanks!

Update: After a bit of investigation it appears that fault lies between the battery to starter portion of the cable?

The actual OEM has more than just the one run battery-starter cable. Per Thermo, he says take the old one off, buy the same (minimum) or slightly longer parts store cable, replace it and leave the others reconnected as they were. If that makes sense.

PUll, drive to the parts store, see what they have on the shelf that matches what is in your hands. There is nothing special about the battery cable.

Thanks guys!

In the pics that I had seen it looked like a 1-piece harness, in actuality it's 2-cables, batt-starter and batt-alternator (piggy backed off the batt terminal). Should be a easy repair.

Update: I may have gotten lucky. While getting ready to remove the cable I noticed that the alt -batt terminal connection seemed to have a fair amount of oxidation on it, I took it apart wire-brushed the contact surfaces and Presto! batt light is off and the temperature of the positive cable feels normal. I took the car out for a 50-mile road test and all is fine.

Corrosion = resistance.

Resistance = heat.
