Post Power Steering Fluid

Hi,

Since I havenīt found any exact/accurate answer about this topic I decided to start my "own", the car is now transitioning from the 56.000 miles forward to the next 10.000 leap and considering this and the fact that I think the Power steering fluid has never being changed since new (2007) I think it would be recommended to do so right?

So the next question would be what should I change it to and whatīs the most accurate if not equal OEM fluid Jag putīs in this cars and what characteristics should it have?

Also whatīs the most easy/fast/reliable method to do this job?

Thank you,
John

I like the guy in this video who is a Ford tech but this technique might apply to our xtypes... He does a lot of helpful videos on various Ford car issues.

The only "problem" with this method is that since you got all that air on the power steering lines and column you have to bleed the whole system until itīs consistent which takes 5 min or so.

Regarding the fluid I think is best to check the owners manual since you there are at least 3 types of fluid, I find best to use the "internet popular american turkey baster method" since I do think that if you donīt let the fluid reach low or the reservoir to empty you can get away without have to bleed the system.

I will need somebody to confirm this theory though that you can "clean" the whole system by using this method.

Thank you,
John

The video method is the best way. I use this same method with automatic transmissions using the cooling lines. I do use a measured bucket to make sure I put back what I take out knowing the system capacity.

That said, if you are just doing this as a general service, the turkey baster way should be fine. I would make sure you do a 150% to 200% change in fluids as you are mixing some new with some old each time. I would do it once a week for a month. I will do mine come spring.
