Problems with aftermarket wheel bearings?
I recently had a wheel bearing installed in the X-Type (rf) and the abs light and check engine light came on.
My installer said he might have nicked the abs sensor so he ordered a new one and installed that. However the light is still on. So two questions, has anybody had issues with aftermarket wheel bearings throwing abs codes (he claims it was installed correctly because he's familiar with the X-Types) and two, does it simply take awhile for the code to clear (or does it need to be done manually)? I need help ASAP as I have a track event Wednesday and Thursday and we're going into a holiday weekend. Help!
The wheel bearing is a National, p/n 510099.

A couple of things - I don't know of an after market bearing with the excitor ring. But, I do know there are generic roller bearings out there that will fit the Jaguar standard sized roller bearing.
The ABS light doesn't need time to clear. Every powerup does a new diagnostic on the ABS, and the light usually doesn't set until the vehicle starts to roll and fails to get a wheel input.
I never, never, never, never, never, never use aftermarket bearings on an X-Type as the failure rate (like you're having) is 100%....and they're so much work to change.
Sorry for this message, but if I were you, I'd do it, yet again, only strongly suggest you buy genuine Jaguar so you're assured the excitor ring is in the bearing and is correct for what the ECU/ABS is looking for.
All the Best,

If the bearings are correct, then they were installed backwards. The ABS reluctor is built into the bearing and even the OEM bearings will flag a fault if they are installed backward (inside, out) as the reluctor is facing OUT and not toward the sensor.

BTW - I think I have a factory X-Type wheel bearing on my shelf. I haven't installed one now in a long time and I work on X-Types less and less now. Not into selling parts on the forums, but rather than letting it sit here on the shelf, if it'll help you just pm me.
Best,
