Default question for the techs, or more of a "huh"

i previously posted that my cd player is not working. and it was recommended that i disconect the bat. here is the huh part. i had the bat disconnected 3 times this weekend, once to fix my head light and 2 times to try and get the cd player to work. i disconected the negative, like normal for the lights, cd still didn't reset, disconected the positive, cd didn't reset. disconnected the whole thing. still didn't reset. today i pulled the fuse, nothing, pulled the unit and unplugged still nothing. then while i was flipping thru the manual it said i would have to input the code to get the radio to work after disconnecting the bat. after unpluging the unit fuse and bat, it never once asked for the radio code. is this normal.
[sm=wtf.gif] this seems kinda odd to me.

I have heard that by disconnecting your battery and then touching the lead cables together, that this will discharge an residue voltage stored in capacitors which is holding memory of conditions such as in the case of your CD player.....

On jags, nota good idea to touch the leads together.

By default the radio for the US market is set to not ask for radio code after battery disconnect.

what would be a good option to replace it. i have contacted
the dealership on another matter, which resulted in contacting
jag, which i was told to suscribe to the tech info and find parts
myself. so seeing as how i have to be my own parts supplier/
installer whats a recomendation for replacement.
