Hello all!! I'm new to the forums, and I've been fasicanted with jags for quite some time. I'm 17, and I consider Myself an extremely safe driver, now I know Im young and still have not experinced everything, and no I dont think I'm invincible haha. Anyways back on topic. Im looking into a 2003 x-type with 80,000 miles. Are these models fairly reliable? I work at a carwash so I have acess to jiffy lube for extremely cheap, so the car would be pampered. Is this the right choice for me? My budget is right around 10,000$. Could any of you jaguar enthusitats(sp) Shed some light on a young'n? Any information/Tips are appreciated!!! Thanks alot guys!!

I would pull a car fax before going any further. The early years of the X had some problems related to the transmission and prop shaft. All the affected parts were replaced under warranty on my car (a 2002 3.0 sport) and it's been very trouble free for the 3 years I have had it so far.
The biggest problem with Jags (and Mercedes, BMW's) is the cost to repair something after the warranty expires. The dealers are complete rip offs. If you have a trusted mechanic who knows what he is doing, you will be better off. Everything is expensive to fix on these cars.
Good luck with your decision.

Hey whats up. I started my luxury car craze at around 16 too (21 now) and have gained so much experience about these cars its crazy, but Ive had my 93 xj6 for almost 4 years now. i STRONGLY considered a x-type as going to a year round car instead of having a winter jeep like I do now. I asked ALLL sorts of questions on reliability to AWD, etc when I was interested a few months or so back. Everyone was super helpful in the x type forum, just do a search on reliability and I'm sure my orginal post of many after that will come up! Or search my user name and I think you can look at my actual posts that way too! Welcome to the club, I'm sure ull get to know everyone in no time!
thats funny how you say dealers are a big rip off.. its usually other shops that come in to my dealer with there customers cars.. and they get us to fix something they have no idea how to and then they over charge there customers.. funny how that circle works.. when that customer could of got it cheaper at the dealer.. lol
Just got mine 5 months ago - first jaguar - X-type 3.0 sport - if you do buy one get it from a dealer and get the a model as early as 2003-2004 - Do a car report or suggest one - most people will do it for you if they want to sell the car if it doesnt have any problems. Also, make sure that if the car does not have any warranty then just get the warranty for two or three years - That onyl will cost you around $2K or 3K depending what type of warranty you put on it. As much as you can do try to get the warranty - it's very costly to fix this car without it. You can always come back to this forum and ask if anything, folks around here will do their best to guide you the right way and also save you some money.
