Steve,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X-Type forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

There is only one part number listed for the X-Types irrespective of model years.

Pressure Cap
1.0 Bar MJA4440BA

My x-type cap doesn't look any different than the ones on my XJ8 and XK8. I will have to check part numbers (inquiring minds want to know).

steveperry, if you are loosing coolant, this normally happens in 1 of 3 spots. The most obvious one being the water pump itself. If you open the bonnet/hood and look behind the battery box, you will see the top of the transmission. Do you see coolant pooling there? If yes, then it is your water pump that is leaking.

Next, look straight back from the battery box and find the overflow bottle. You will find 2 nipples on the back side of the overflow bottle. Specifically, you want to pay attention to the one on the left side of the bottle (nearest the engine). If you remove the hose from that nipple, did any part of the nipple remain in the tube and/or, do you see a white line in the nipple itself. This nipple is known for developing a crack in it (especially if the pinch clamp wings are left pointing straight up).

Lastly, fill the overflow bottle and take the car for a drive (10 miles/20 KM). Stop the car and let it idle for a minute or two. Now, look under the car across the whole area by the firewall (between the front tires). Do you see any pooling coolant? Most likely it will either be near the center of the vehicle (but you should also have a sweet smelling heater on the inside of the car) or near your front passenger wheel (since you car is RHD, driver's side front wheel if LHD). This would be a sign that your overflow bottle has developed a crack in the underside and it only leaks once the system gets up in pressure.

If you need more info, let me know.

I had the same thing happen with my radiator cap. I just took a large pair of channel locks (pliers) and carefully grabbed hold of the lip of the half that remained stuck in the recovery tank, then turned it counterclockwise while pulling up at the same time. It took a little effort but I finally got it out. I just bought a new radiator cap and all is well.
