Default 2004 x type new battery

Installed a new battery after she overheated and wouldnt start. It started with a jump but seemed the battery was dead Replaced with a new battery Turned the key and nothing. All lights radio etc work. Dash says gear box fault but it started prior from a jump Even a jump with the new battery cant get the starter to make a peep.
Is there a reset button somewhere

You can try the inertia switch. It is located on the passenger side footwell. The should be a cover on the side of the footwell that you can remove. Push the button on the top of the switch in to reset it.
The most likely problem is bad battery cable check the ends of the cable for corrosion and frayed broken wires. They are the weak point between the battery and the starter.
You can also try a hard reset by taking the negative cable off and holding it against the positive cable for 30 seconds.
Give those a try and report back so we can search further.

+1 on the Battery cables...They can look good, but looks can be deceiving....Inertia Switch is also a possibility as mentioned.

You need an OBD scanner. Take it to a local autozone, oreiily's parts store and have the codes read. Write them down and report back. Then have them clear the codes and check engine light. Let us know if it comes back on after a few trips.
One really needs a code reader if you are going to work on a Jag.

Good to here you have it running again. Unplugging sensors might turn off the light but it doesn't fix the problem.
The large rectangular pin socket is the OBD port where the reader plugs in.
Try to get the codes as soon as possible.

The handbook only shows the key fob and the push button for trunk release.
